Praise for
Becoming Whole: A Healing Companion to Ease Emotional Pain and Find Self-Love

  • “This book definitely offers a lot of hope. I laughed and cried repeatedly throughout Becoming Whole, knowing that I have experienced many of these feelings that you explore, as well as just feeling general empathy and sympathy for the patients’ situations. The questions at the end of each session are really insightful and allowed me to be really introspective in examining my life, and especially in determining whether or not to look into therapy for myself or my loved ones.”
    Elizabeth R.

  • “Becoming Whole takes a new track in providing insights into the therapeutic process. Instead of it being a psychoanalytic mystery, the process of what the therapist is trying to help the patient accomplish is spelled out explicitly. Cogent case examples are given that further clarify the therapeutic interactions. These are in the setting of a holistic approach that also includes medicines, vitamins, and other adjuncts. Together, these provide an excellent road map toward wellness.”
    Robert M. Post, M.D.
Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington School of Medicine, Head of the Bipolar Collaborative Network, and former Chief of the Biological Psychiatry Branch of the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH)
  • "Becoming Whole is best described as a 'pocket therapist.' By sharing optimistic and compelling patient stories, personal reflections, and practical tools, Dr. Kehr literally becomes our “Companion Advisor” and provides a highly readable framework for understanding and solving many of the common problems we face throughout our lives. Weaving together self-help, psychotherapy, and medication, this book is a must-read for anyone striving to become whole and to create a more fulfilling life.”

Chief Medical Officer and Group Vice President of Walgreens
  • "Becoming Whole feels so personal, as if I’m sitting and talking with the doctor in his office. I love the vivid, real cases in which we can find ourselves, the step-by-step tactics to do something, and the songs to go with each lesson. It’s an emotional, visual, and auditory feast that adds a tactile hug to complete one’s transformation to wholeness. My brain is on fire with new energy about what it means to be human."

  • “This book definitely offers a lot of hope and feelings of relatability to most of the patients that you outline (everyone has felt ashamed, embarrassed, sad, disheartened, etc). While some of the patients’ circumstances are extreme, the general ideas and feelings of the patients are universally relatable. I laughed and cried repeatedly throughout this book, knowing that I have experienced many of these feelings that you explore, as well as just feeling general empathy and sympathy for the patients’ situations.” “I love that you have questions before and after the main story is revealed, priming the reader to think about certain things when reading your view on sessions with your patients. The questions at the end are really insightful and allow the reader to really be introspective in examining their lives, and especially in determining whether or not to look into therapy for themselves or their loved ones.”
    Elizabeth Riggins (age 22)
    College Student
  • “I found the self-help questions to be very useful. I actually found myself asking how my life related to these questions. It really made me think hard and even led to discussions with my wife at times since I had certain questions on my mind. I would say these self-help questions were a success for me because it got a conversation going. I think that is one goal of this book and it was accomplished with me. These questions really do open your eyes and get you thinking about ways to possibly change aspects of your life for the better.”

Why You Need
Becoming Whole: A Healing Companion to Ease Emotional Pain and Find Self-Love

“Helping others brings me enormous joy. During my 40 years as a practicing psychiatrist it has been my honor to help thousands of patients ease emotional pain, end aloneness, and find self-love. While it has been a great privilege to be placed in a position of such trust, one of my deepest sources of frustration has been my inability to alleviate the suffering of greater numbers of people. The constraints of distance and time once seemed insurmountable. And so I write a weekly blog, and have written a book, with the hope that it will enable me to reach out and help many more people. Perhaps even you and the ones you love. If you suffer from emotional pain that just won’t go away, feel alone at work or at home, suffer from low self-esteem, or endure challenging love relations, read my blogs and my book. I wrote them for you.
